i know nothing about cars and its all my friends talk about whole day like v-techs n ****, even the chicks are more clued up than i am and i feel left out becoz i cant contribute to the conversation so can anyone tell me any magazines/websites(preferably websites) where i can learn about cars?

A “v-tech” is actually a “vtec” – Honda’s acronym for its variable valve timing system – “Variable valveTiming Electronically Controlled” (I think). Engines have inlet and exhaust valves in each cylinder that open and shut to let new fuel in (Inlet valves) and Exhaust valves (to let the burnt fuel out). Old engine designs had just one inlet and one exhaust valve in each cylinder. Modern engines work more efficiently because they are “multi-valve”, which means they have more the one inlet and one exhaust valve for each cylinder. Some earlier ones still had one exhaust valve, but with two inlet valves. Most engines these days have two of each in every cylinder (so a Toyota 1600cc 4-cylinder 4-valve engine actually has 16 valves all together), but some engines have 3 inlet valves. The opening and closing of valves is controlled by the camshaft (or camshafts – most modern engines also now have more than one camshaft – “twin cam”). To improve performance even more, variable valve timing was invented (first by Alfa Romeo I think), but Honda was the first to introduce it on a production car – that was the Honda NSX in 1991 (or the Acura NSX in USA I think). Variable Valve Timing is now quite common in a number of car makes (the vtec term is only used by Honda, or Acura), but most models still don’t have it due to cost – it tends to be only used in the more high-performance models. (I presume you know the difference between “makes” and “models”.
A car engine is almost always a 4-stroke engine. That is, it has 4 strokes for each “Power Stroke”. (MotoX bike engines are usually 2 stroke engines, but some are 4-stroke.) The 4 “strokes” consist of 2 Down-strokes (Intake stroke and Power stroke) and 2 Up-Strokes (Compression stroke and Exhaust stroke). So a 4-Stroke engine has 4 strokes to complete a full “cycle”.
To find out more about engines and other car-related things, Google things like:
“How does a car engine work?’
“How does vtec work?”
“How does a manual gearbox work?’
How does an automatic transmission work?”
“How does a differential work?”
“How does a trans-axial work?”
“Car suspension and wheel alignment”
“oversteer and understeer”
“conrod, piston, gudgeon pin, crankshaft, cc rating, cylinder head, intake valve, carburetor, fuel injection, turbo charger, super charger, blow-off valve, dip stick, synthetic engine oil”
Hey, I could go on all night!
You might start at your local library or do a search. Look for basic engine and transmissions operation.
just use youtube, and look up, VODcars, fastlanedaily, garage419, and fifthgearuk, those are some good ones
u must visit howstuffworks.com here u’ll get all the info abt the working of engine, transmission, drive train and anything u want to know about anything
