Trash Talk About Anything and Everything

Question by SinDelle Morte: Isn’t the “health insurance reform” just going to end up making the poor even poorer?
The argument is that most of the people who don’t have health insurance don’t have it because they can’t afford it, right? So they opt out of having any so they can have more money from their paychecks to pay their bills and support their families. But they are still going to have to pay for the “reformed” insurance, based on a sliding scale determined by income. It will only be free or very low cost to people who are REALLY poor; I believe the figure I saw in the Senate bill was 18% below the poverty line. You can correct me if I’m wrong but I believe the poverty line is less than ,000/year for a family of 3. Anyone making less than that is definitely pretty poor. So these people would get Medicaid anyway but that’s beside the point. The point is that everyone else is going to have to pay and they are already unable to afford it.

I do not believe the government insurance will be that much cheaper than private insurance; if you have Medicare or FAMIS you already know it isn’t. At least with private insurance or these other programs, you have the option to opt out. How is the government FORCING people to pay for something they can’t afford going to help them? Isn’t it likely that, for some people, it is going to cause them serious financial problems? What should they do? Get a better-paying job? Since it operates on a sliding scale, if they make more money, they’ll have to pay more. And aren’t they also going have to still pay into Medicare and other programs too for the really poor people?
Da Yoop: Medicaid is not more expensive but Medicare often is because you hae to pay for all these supplemental programs because Medicare does not cover A LOT of things. Get ready to hear that phrase a lot. And FAMIS is basically a sliding-scale situation, too and it is really isn’t that much cheaper than regular insurance.
Constipated: What is a “sync”? Or are you trying to say “cynic”? Either way, you are incorrect. If you can find one flaw in my argument, please point it out. How is being forced to pay money that you already know you don’t have supposed to help you?
g: Thank you for repeating what I already stated. It’s always nice to know a person is truly listening. If only you could have paid attention when I corrected you the 100 other times regarding my political affiliation. I will do it once more, in the interest of efficiency: I am not a Republican OR a Conservative.

As to the rest of your statement, these people have no care because they CHOOSE not to, because they KNOW they can’t afford it. What good is forcing health insurance on them that takes food out of their children’s mouths? They make too much to get on any existing health care assistance and not enough to afford family coverage and they make the difficult decision to go without it in the interest of providing for more crucial needs. Who are you to make their decisions for them? They are adults and don’t need you or the government looking after them as if they are children. And again, what good is FORCING health insurance on them that takes food from their children’s mouths?
If you’ve ever been poor, then you know there is no such thing as “extra” money. These people don’t have the money for insurance, even if it is cheap. If they did, they’d have it already because there ARE plans out there that are pretty damn cheap. We had family coverage for less than 0/mo. and both my husband and I smoke. And that wasn’t through anyone’s employer. The government insurance will be cheaper than that? I doubt it.
White Devil: Typical Obama supporter. They really believe that sh!t.
White Devil: You have to watch this one… this woman is leaving a message at the repo company that took her car and she says, “We’re not rich like ya’ll but we will be because we have Barack Obama!” LMAO.
Lol. Guess I should’ve posted the link. Sorry, I’m still laughing. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vSaEQA83nFw&feature=related

  1. Well Duh! Said,

Yes, but the good news is the poor will have more company.

  2. da.yooper57 Said,

Medicare and medicaid are more expensive then private insurance. Yikes how can you answer a question that starts out with this big lie.

  3. Shovel Ready Said,

The working classes and middle classes of Americans will be hit the hardest with the increased premiums, the incentive to fire employees, and the requirement to purchase insurance converages that make no sense for many people.

  4. Cat - astrophe Said,

It will lead the way for a complete government controlled rationing form of health care. It will re-distribute the wealth of the country – everyone will be affected negatively, except for government workers who have their own program. Remember Animal Farm – “all animals are equal – except some are more equal than others”.

  5. Надежд и перемен (hope n change) Said,

America is going to be like one giant New Orleans, except for the people in charge, of course, why should they have to share in our misery??

  6. afratta437 Said,

since your paying for OTHERS healthcare that leaves less for yourself. that means your more likely to need them down the road in some other program.

  7. PIXIE Said,

everybody else.this is wealth redistribution 101,cloward and piven ring a bell

  8. Philip McCrevice Said,

The Democrats have come to the conclusion that they have to pass a health care bill at any cost.

They don’t care what it will do to the economy or families of America.

They want to be able to strut around and say “We passed Health Care Reform.”

Of course, they will be the only ones who think it’s a good thing they passed.

There’s no selling across state lines. There’s no Tort Reform. There’s no cost reduction since all they will do is subsidize buying insurance, nothing about lowering costs.

They will supposedly trim 500 billion from Medicare waste and fraud. Yeah. Right.

  9. Got Wild, Staring Eyes Said,

No one knows what the final bill will contain.

I find it difficult to believe that it won’t bankrupt the entire country.

  10. Constipated CON. Said,

The syncs, oops republicans are just disguised as critics. If he were to snap his fingers and magically
cure all of Americas ills, they would still complain that he took to long in doing it.

  11. g Said,

it’s a SLIDING SCALE, as you said… so the poorer you are, the cheaper it is…

so, near poverty, would be very cheap…

the thing you seem to ignore is… THESE PEOPLE NEED SOME SORT OF CARE… and they often have none now…

REPUBLICANS have railed and railed against giving it away… Obama conceeds… and now you’re complaining that they aren’t giving it away?

do you think that them just having NO CARE is a better idea? what happens now when those people get sick?

I thought you conservatives said all the poor people have cable tv and cadilacs… so they shoudln’t have any problems… right? lol

and you clearly have zero idea of how the tax system works… most people that make under 50K… pay little to no taxes (they get it all back, if they do pay any)…

so, no, they won’t have to pay for others…

  12. Ron Said,

Obamas well kept campaign secret, Bend Over Middle Class, Here I come. Vote for me
and cry for the rest of your ever lovin life. signed Barry the impersonator of an American
    Soetorro.

  13. Drixnot Said,

The Senate bill would require states to expand their Medicaid programs to cover all Americans up to 133 percent of the federal poverty level (FPL), or $29,326 for a family of four. The House bill would require states to expand eligibility for Medicaid to 150 percent FPL, or $33,075 for a family of four.

The current system DOES NOT cover adults in that income bracket, so no they were not already covered. People that get sick and are to poor for private insurance but can’t get medicaid have to quit their jobs and go for disability even if they really aren’t fully disabled and could continue (even prefer) working.

  14. PAYAK Said,

Not only that it gives the Government the right to put you in jail for not having health insurance. It’s pretty hard to go to work when you are in jail. Also, businesses will be hiring less people due to the mandated employer provided health insurance provision. Either that or they will just pay the fines for not providing healthcare insurance to their employees. That means less money to hire employees.

  15. White Devil Said,

no kidding…wait till reality hits them in the face. LOL

If you don’t buy insurance you will be fined or possibly imprisoned…….hmmmmm

Copious amounts of 0bama-aid will turn you into a fool. LIke the chick in this link. LOL Wait till she get the message…..it ain’t going to be pretty.

  16. Fred K Said,

And who do you think pays for Medicaid now.if every one has Insurance we won’t have to pay for all the Dead beats driving new cars saying hey can’t afford health insurance.last year Insurance company’s made record profits hospitals pass along cost of the uninsured that don’t pay there bills to the rest of us.even Rush says he received the best health care from a state that Mandates Employer’s have Health Insurance on every Employee working more than 20 hours a week

  17. Truth B. Told SHRUGGED Said,

Yes, and that’s exactly where the Obama Administration wants us. The mid-term elections this year are oh-so-important. They will determine whether we go to hell in a handbasket–or not.

  18. ek 5 Said,

As I read through the answers you have gotten so far, I have come to the conclusion that nobody has the answer.

Some of the people say that insurance premiums will go up because someone will have to pay for the people who can’t pay. The problem is, that we have a system like that in place already, the law says that a Hospital can’t turn away a person at the emergency room because of the lack of the ability to pay, so the Hospital is going to have to make up for the money they spent providing services for them, so they will charge more to the people who can pay, therefore driving up costs, and insurance premiums.

The problem is that our present health insurance system is geared toward healthy people who won’t get sick, and the minute someone gets sick, or gets to an age where they might get sick, they get tossed out on their butt. (I’d say ass, but it would get censored). I know, because I’m one of those that have been tossed, I can get health insurance, but the monthly premium is more than I make in a month, and I don’t qualify for Medicaid.

Some say the present system shouldn’t be changed, but what do you do with people in my position? Should we just crawl into a corner and die when we get sick? If so, who will pay for the disposal of all the corpses?

I don’t know what the answer is, I don’t like Obama’s plan, but our current system isn’t much better.

  19. The Patriot Said,

For those who are not healthy no. For most, who are, yes. But only in the short term. It will though make them healthier as then they will be able to afford preventative healthcare.

Why does no other developed nation have the US model of healthcare? Because in the US model, insurance companies use death panels to deny care to those they are meant to cover. And then they raise costs [1]. Not only does the USA spend more on healthcare than any other nation [2], it finds itself bottom of the table when it comes to preventable deaths due to treatable conditions when it comes to developed nations [3]. The sad thing is that rather than focus on these things, the right spreads lies and half truths about the reforms and how healthcare works abroad [4]. But, if you think that my points are wrong, e-mail me with proof.
